The Erasmus+ project COLAM („Champions of Languages And Minorities“) is a project financed by the EU. It covers the school years 2016/17 and 2017/18.

Its participants are 6 schools with a minority-language background, namely
- Gymnasiet Grankulla samskola, a Swedishspeaking secondary school at the outskirts of Helsinki, Finland
- Katolickie Liceum Ogolnokszatalcace im Romualda Traugutta w Chojnicach near Danzig in Poland; a Kashubian speaking region
- Scola chantunala grischuna in Chur, Graubünden, Switzerland, which has a Rumantsch branch and practices bilingual teaching
- Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen, Wales, a secondary school which fosters the Welsh language
- James Gillespie’s High School in Edinburgh, Scotland, which fosters the Gaelic language
- Oberschulzentrum Sterzing
There are over 150 minority languages in Europe and the students taking part in this project get a little insight into this language diversity. We explore the history and culture of other minorities, find out about the reality in which the minority groups live within their countries and thus become more aware of our own identity as a member of a minority. What chances open up for members of minorities? What dangers does a minority language face? What can each of us contribute to save and protect our minority? These and other questions are being discussed during our project meetings. 4 such meetings are planned: Finland (December 2016), Poland (March 2017), Sterzing, Italy (September 2017) and Wales (March 2018). The project ends with a festival held at each school in spring 2018.
Our Erasmus group is made up of 12 students from all branches: Julia Brunner, Simon Plank, Arina Odynets, Eva-Maria Lazzari (all 4a), Christine Strickner (4b), Victoria Albertini (4 A), Vera Schölzhorn (4B), Markus Zingerle (3b), Mara Volgger, Lena Seeber, Maria Delueg and Lisa Plaickner (all 3a). We work on the project during the “Förderunterricht”.
The teachers involved in the project are Andrea Mayr and Dorothea Messner.
